Battle of the Stands, Volume II

As a follow-up to Battle of the Stands, Volume I, let’s take a look at Star Stands:

Star Stands come in five varieties: a circular vintage stand, a circular modern stand, a rectangular modern stand, a vintage stand with the Kenner logo, and a vintage stand with a Star Wars character-specific nameplate.

The quality of the stands is excellent. The stands are only slightly flexible, with strong foot pegs.

I don’t have a vintage 2-1B. Use your imagination!

Not accurate either!

The Star Stands work well with a variety of vintage (and faux-vintage) action figure lines. Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2 (both Kenner and Super7 lines) worked perfectly. The larger Kenner Terminator 2 figures required that two stands be used.

Some figures were not compatible with the stands. My Ripley Reaction figure wouldn’t fit on the Star Stands, but she wouldn’t fit on my other vintage stands either. Certain figures have different foot pegs for some reason, this is the fault of the action figure mold and not the stands themselves.

The wide modern action figure stands worked well with my Star Wars action figures.

The smaller modern stands were also useful for the right characters.

The modern stands worked well with modern G.I. Joe figures.

Star Stands are available in the United States through their eBay store (user id: iainitfc-usa).

The current prices for the stands are:

  • 100 vintage circular stands for $44.99 (with free shipping)
  • 100 modern circular stands for $44.99 (with free shipping)
  • 50 modern stands (wide) for $24.99 (with free shipping)
  • 100 vintage Kenner stands for $109.99 (with free shipping)

Smaller quantities are also available. The vintage stands with character specific nameplates were not available at the time this review was published.

As with the previous stands I reviewed, there is no one-size-fits-all action figure stand. Size, price, colors, and compatibility all factor in to what stand is appropriate for a certain figure or display.

The unique small size of the circular Star Stands gives the possibility of fitting more action figures in a display space over using larger stands. The modern wide Star Stands are more wide than a ProTech stand, but are smaller in both height and width than a SmallJoes modern stand.

I was impressed with the quality of the Star Stands, and their unique sizes and features means I’ll be adding more of them to my collection in the future.

Star Stands provided the action figures stands for this review.
